Pirates Back in Win Column at Oxnard

The VC women's soccer team got back in the win column Tuesday with a 3-0 shutout victory at Oxnard College. Andrea Ibarra scored twice in the first half and Aailyah Flores added a goal late to set the margin. Sibella Donnelly recorded her fifth shutout of the year in goal and Elisa Merlos had a great game at center back. Desire Lopez led a host of other players who provided solid outings for the Pirates in the triumph.

Ibarra broke the ice for Ventura (7-3-4, 2-1-2) putting a corner kick by Yahaira Ramirez into the goal for a 1-0 Pirate lead in the 27th minute.

Ibarra made it 2-0 in the 40th converting an assist form Crystal Vargas for the 2-0 advantage at intermission.

Flores set the final margin in the 87th minute with a goal off a corner kick by Jaemi Toledo.

Offensively, the Pirates produced a season-high 21 shots with 10 shots on goal.

Donnelly and Merlos anchored the defensive effort, with valuable contributions by Lopez, Alondra Sanchez. Karen Saldana and Elizabeth Mika.

After a bye date on Friday, VC returns to action on Tuesday Oct. 17, hosting league-leading Allan Hancock College. Kickoff in the important battle for three points in the table is scheduled for 6:00 pm at the VC Sportsplex.
