The VC women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw Friday afternoon against Los Angeles Pierce on a hot fall day in Woodland Hills. After conceding an early score, the Pirates (6-3-4, 1-1-2) netted an equalizer when Andrea Ibarra scored on a penalty kick just before halftime. Ventura goalie Sibella Donnelly kept the Brahmas out of the goal for the remainder of the contest to help earn the point.

Pierce opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a left-footed shot into the upper corner of the goal.

The teams then battled for the remainder of the half with Ventura mostly in control, especially with the speed of the game. The Pirates earned a penalty kick just into extra time and Ibarra converted to level the score headed to intermission.

The second half played out with neither team generating many chances in the offensive third of the field in the draw. Jennifer Galindo had a solid effort for VC in the midfield.

The Pirates ended with seven shots total, five on goal, while Pierce had three shots, two on target.

Ventura continues Western State Conference play on Tuesday Oct. 10 at Oxnard College. Play is set to begin at 4:00 pm.
