The Pirate soccer team secured another victory shutting out Cerritos College 2-0 on the road Tuesday afternoon. Forward Crystal Vargas had a goal and an assist while Sibella Donnelly kept the Falcons out of the net for her second full-time shutout and third victory of the season. Emily Ramirez also scored for Ventura (5-1-2) as they stretched their unbeaten streak to seven games.

VC, ranked No. 13 nationally in the latest United Soccer Coaches JC Division III (non-scholarship) poll, was locked into a scoreless duel for much of the afternoon in south Los Angeles County.  Ramirez cashed in Vargas' nice cross in the 79th minute of play for the slim 1-0 margin before Vargas sealed the deal with an unassisted shot over the goalie's outstretched arms and into the net in the 88th minute of play.

The Pirates dominated play with 15 shots total, eight on goal, while Cerritos took three shots, two on target.

Ventura returns home on Friday Sept. 22 for their final non-conference game of the season against Bakersfield. Kick-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm at the VC Sportsplex.
