The VC soccer team put forth a dominant effort Tuesday, defeating Oxnard 5-0 at the Sportsplex. The Pirates had 26 shots, 12 on goal, while the Condors did not record a single shot in the shutout. Alix Tirado scored once and had three assists while Ashley Tiscareno, Alexis Arrieta, Alyssa Cornwell and Jaemi Toledo all found the back of the net for Ventura (6-5-3, 4-1).

VC dominated from the beginning, possessing the ball deep in the Condors' end of the field for much of the night. It took a while for Ventura to find the inside of the net, however. Cornwell had a great opportunity in the eighth minute, but her low shot inside the near post was stopped by the OC goalie. Tirado could not find her rhythm and had a couple of shots sail wide while Tiscareno took a shot that traveled outside the frame and Cornwell missed a tap in right in front of the net 37 minutes in. Tiscareno finally got the Pirates on the board with a header off of Tirado's corner kick in the 44th minute. Ventura led at halftime 1-0.

Goals came easier for VC in the second half, beginning in the 48th minute when Tirado took a through ball from Valerie Hernandez and chipped it over the keeper for the score. Arrieta followed up a Tirado shot and rebound by tapping the ball across the gaol line for a 3-0 score win the 65th minute. Cornwell tapped in the fourth goal of the game, also off a deflected Tirado shot, in the 73rd minute. Jaemi Toledo collected a goal kick in the 79th minute, sending the ball back inside the far post for the final 5-0 margin.

Ventura goalie Isa Garcia recorded the shutout despite not facing any Oxnard shots.

The Pirates next travel to Santa Maria on Tuesday Oct. 18 to take on Allan Hancock College at 4:00 pm.
