VC Brings Home Draw from Bakersfield

The VC soccer team traveled to Bakersfield on Friday afternoon, coming home with a 2-2 draw against the Renegades. Alix Tirado scored a goal and assisted on a score by Alyssa Cornwell to lead the Pirates to the point on the road.

Ventura took the quick lead when Tirado assisted Cornwell's score in the fifth minute. The teams battled the remainder of the first half with neither able to find the inside of the net.  In the final minute before intermission, Pirate goalie Kambria Haughton had a big save to keep the 1-0 VC margin.

Tirado took advantage of a missed clearance by the Renegades, doubling the Pirate lead to 2-0 in the 53rd minute.

BC was able to cut into the deficit with a score in the 68th minute, then netted the equalizer in the 85th minute on a penalty kick for the draw.

VC totaled 10 shots overall with seven on frame while Bakersfield had four shots, two on goal.

Ventura returns home on Tuesday Sept. 27 to open Western State Conference play against Cuesta. Kickoff at the VC Sportsplex is slated for 6:30 pm.
