Ventura defender Hannah Price (17) sends a cross past the Rio Hondo defense Tuesday, leading to a goal by Alix Tirado in the Pirates' 1-1 draw with the Roadrunners at the Sportsplex.

After each side scored in the first 19 minutes of play, the Pirates' women's soccer team and visiting Rio Hondo battled it out to a 1-1 draw Tuesday at the Sportsplex. Hannah Price assisted an Alix Tirado goal for the Ventura score and Goalkeeper Isa Garcia had one save on the night to preserve the level outcome.

Rio Hondo got on the board first with a hard drive down the middle and into the net in the 11th minute.

Ventura (2-3-1) quickly found the equalizer nine minutes later. Price sent a cross from the right side to Tirado, who settled and maneuvered past the Roadrunner goalkeeper for the easy score.

The teams played the final 70 minutes scoreless to finish the 1-1 draw.

The Pirates were not without their chances, however, as they took 14 shots overall with six on goal. At one point over a 10 minute period in the second half, VC sent three shots in a row high over the crossbar.

Rio Hondo, conversely, was limited to four shots with two on goal.

The Pirates next will travel to Fresno City College on Friday Sept. 16 to take on the Rams. They return home on Tuesday Sept. 20 against Citrus.
