The Ventura College women's soccer team celebrated the program's 17th Western State Conference championship Tuesday night at the VC Sportsplex with an 8-1 drubbing of Cuesta. The Pirates, who clinched the title a week ago at Oxnard, scored in the second minute of the game and never looked back against the Cougars. Alix Tirado led the way with four goals and an assist while Ashley Tiscareno scored twice. Valerie Hernandez handed out three assists on the night.

The Pirates wasted little time in establishing dominance over the Cougars as Tiscareno scored on a corner kick in the first minute when her shot went through the goalie's hands and into the far side of the net.

In the 5th minute, Hernandez made a run down the right side, making a perfect centering pass to Tirado, who hit a one-touch shot into the net for a 2-0 Ventura advantage.

Tirado scored again 10 minutes later on a nice cross from Stephany Ramirez, and she completed the hat trick in the 24th minute with a run down the middle after an assisting pass from Hernandez.

VC made it 5-0 when Tiscareno converted in front of the net off a corner kick by Hernandez in the 29th minute.

Ventura made it 6-0 in the 37th minute of play when Tirado sent a ball into the box for Jennifer Ramirez, who snuck the ball past the goalie, slotting a shot inside the left post.

The Cougars got on the board in the 42nd minute, but the Pirates led at halftime 6-1.

The Pirates continued the onslaught after intermission when Tirado connected on her fourth goal of the night in the 48th minute, scoring off a rebounded shot by Ramirez.

VC completed the evening in the 77th minute when Lizbeth Payne knocked in a rebound from an initial shot by Areanna Covarrubias, setting the final 8-1 margin.

Pirate goalie Kambria Haughton had a lonely night, facing but a single shot from the Cougars. Ventura, meanwhile was all over the goal all night, taking 32 shots, 21 of which were on target.

After the game, the Pirates celebrated with the presentation of the WSC championship trophy by new VC Athletics Dean Dr. Bernard Gibson.

Despite claiming the crown, the Pirates still have work to be done. They close the regular season on Friday Nov. 12 at Los Angeles Pierce with a 6:00 pm kickoff in Woodland Hills. They will then look for their Playoff match-up with post-season play beginning on Saturday Nov. 20.
