Pirates Draw at SBCC, Maintain WSC North Edge

The Pirates' women's soccer team traveled to Santa Barbara's La Playa Stadium Friday, coming home with a 1-1 draw against the Vaqueros to maintain their margin in the Western State Conference North Division race. Valerie Hernandez scored in the 11th minute of the game, and VC (11-2-3, 5-0-2) earned the point despite giving up a goal in the 68th minute of the contest.

Hernandez put the Pirates ahead early on a fantastic free kick on the left side.

SBCC scored the equalizer in the 48th minute of play, and the teams remained level for the remainder of the game.

Ventura had 10 shots in the game, four of which were on goal while the Vaqueros totaled nine shots, four on target.

Kambria Haughton had three saves in goal for the Pirates, who are ranked No. 9 in California and No. 13 in the nation.

With the draw, and LA Pierce's tie with Moorpark on Friday, the Pirates remain six points ahead of LAPC and Santa Barbara in the WSC North standings with five games remaining.

VC returns home for two games next week, hosting Moorpark on Tuesday Oct. 26 at 6:30 pm before playing Hancock on Friday OCt. 29 at 5:30 pm.
