VC freshman Jennifer Ramirez celebrated her birthday with a pair of goals in the Pirates' 5-0 shutout over Bakersfield Friday night at the Sportsplex.

It was all Pirates at the Sportsplex Friday night as the VC soccer team raced to a 5-0 shutout victory over visiting Bakersfield. Jennifer Ramirez celebrated her birthday with a pair of goals and Alix Tirado also found the inside of the frame twice to lead Ventura (6-2-1) to the easy win. Justice Jones also scored a goal and Aaliyah Lopez had one save in goal in posting the shutout.

Ramirez got the Pirate on the board early, scoring in the fourth minute on a goal from the right side.

Tirado settled a cross from Jones in the 19th minute before finding the back of the net for a 2-0 Ventura edge.

Ramirez scored her second goal off an excellent through ball by Valerie Hernandez and Jones chipped in an assist by Tirado in the 32nd minute. Tirado punctuated the onslaught with a goal a minute later off Hernandez's second assist of the night.

Ventura was dominant, hitting 14 shots, eight on goal, while the Renegades managed just two shots the entire night.

The Pirates open Western State Conference action at home on Tuesday Sept. 28 with a date against Santa Barbara. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 pm against the Vaqueros at the Sportsplex.
