Women's Soccer Keeps Pace in Conference Race

The Ventura College women's soccer team kept pace in the Western State Conference North Division race with a 2-0 victory at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria Friday afternoon. Jacky Espinosa scored both goals for the Pirates (10-4-3, 5-2-1), who recorded their ninth shutout of the season.

Espinosa put the Pirates on the board in the fourth minute of the game, scoring off an assist by Sammy Zanini. She then put the game away with an unassisted goal in the 68th minute. Ventura had 15 shots in the game with 11 on goal.

Aracely Castro had one save in goal for the Pirates in the shutout victory. 

Ventura pulls into a second place tie with Santa Barbara with 16 points in the table, three points behind Cuesta. The Pirates still have caps remaining with both the Vaqueros and the Cougars.

VC next hosts Oxnard on Tuesday Nov. 5. Kickoff at the VC Sportsplex is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
