The Ventura College soccer team leveled its Western State Conference record at 2-2 with a 3-0 shutout victory at Oxnard College Wednesday afternoon. Sammy Zanini scored a pair of goals and Aracely Castro posted her seventh shutout of the season in goal for the Pirates (7-4-2, 2-2). VC had 20 shots on the day with 11 on goal compared to two for the Condors.

Karen Martinez netted VC's first goal in the 21st minute with an assist by Marlene Cabrera. The Pirates went into halftime with the 1-0 advantage.

Zanini quickly settled things down in the second half, cashing in an assist by Isabella DeRosa in the 52nd minute. Zanini added extra insurance in the 85th minute with an assist by Janneth Cruz.

Castro saved two shots from OC in the match as the Pirate defense was stellar once again.

Ventura makes a quick turn-around, hosting Cuesta College on Friday Oct. 19 at the Sportsplex. The ball will roll at 5:30 pm with the Pirates and Cougars.
