Sophomore Karen Martinez netted her first career goal for VC as the Pirates defeated Evergreen Valley 2-0 on Friday in San Jose.

The Pirate soccer team traveled to the Bay Area Friday, coming away with a 2-0 shutout victory over Evergreen Valley College in San Jose. Karen Martinez and Sammy Zanini each netted scores and Aracely Castro posted the shutout in goal as VC moves to 3-0 on the season.

Martinez, a sophomore, netted her first goal for the orange and black in the 64th minute with an assist by Jasmin Ambriz. Zanini put the game out of reach in the 88th minute scoring off a direct kick. Castro had one save in goal for her second straight shutout. As a team, VC has played 270 minutes this season without yielding a score.

The Pirates next will take on Cañada College, also in the Bay Area, on Sunday Sept. 8 before returning home. Kickoff on the campus near Redwood City is slated for 11:00 am.
