The Ventura College women's soccer team had its season come to an end with a 5-2 defeat at San Bernardino Valley College Saturday in the first round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs. Miranda Vasquez and Audrey Castillo scored goals for Ventura as the Pirates ended their season with a 10-7-5 record.

The teams squared off in a defensive battle throughout the first half. San Bernardino Valley, the No. 5 in the region, finally broke through with a score in the 45th minute for a 1-0 halftime advantage.

Unfortunately for the No. 12-seeded Pirates, the flood gates opened early in the second half for the Wolverines. SBVC scored in the 47th and 50th minutes shortly after intermission to pretty much put the game on ice.

Ventura , however, did not give up the fight. Vasquez punched through the first Ventura goal in the 65th minute off a cross from the right wing by Aleesa Ramirez to close the gap to 3-1. SBVC netted another score a minute later, before Castillo found the back of the net for the 22nd time this season off an assist by Jasmin Ambriz in the 71st minute. San Bernardino closed the scoring with a goal in the 87th minute to set the final 5-2 margin.

Ventura goalie Aracely Castro recorded six saves in the game and the Pirates recorded 12 shots with six on goal.

Ventura closes its season with a 10-7-5 record after a second place finish in the Western State Conference North Division with an 8-1-1 conference mark.
