Soccer's Early Lead Holds at Oxnard

The Pirate soccer team netted a pair of early goals Friday afternoon, and they made them hold up in their 2-1 victory over the Condors. Paulina Aldrete had a goal and an assist to lead the way for Ventura (8-6-5, 6-1-1) as the Pirates maintained their second place standing in the Western State Conference North Division table. Audrey Castillo also recorded a goal for the victors.

Castillo got the Pirates off to a fast start with a goal in the 4th minute of play, assisted by Aldrete. Nine minutes later, Aldrete made it 2-0 with a goal off an assist by Jasmin Ambriz

Oxnard scored a goal in the 64th minute to make things interesting, but the Pirates were able to hold on for the win.

VC dominated the offensive end with 35 shots, 19 on goal. Aracely Castro anchored the defense with three saves in goal.

Ventura next hosts Moorpark on Tuesday Nov. 6 at the VC Sportsplex. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
