Mondragon's Hat Trick Leads VC Past Moorpark

VC freshman Yamile Mondragon became the first Pirate to score a hat trick against Moorpark Friday in the Pirates' 4-1 victory over the Raiders.

Yamile Mondragon scored three goals and Audrey Castillo added a goal and two assists as the Ventura College women's soccer team made it four win in the past five outings with a 4-1 victory at Moorpark College Friday. The victory gave the Pirates (5-6-4, 3-1) a sweep of Ventura County schools during rivalry week as Ventura had defeated Oxnard on Wednesday.

Mondragon wasted little time, scoring her first goal in the 3rd minute with an assist by Kayla Simmons-Allon. Mondragon then found the back of the net again in the 11th minute with a goal assisted by Castillo. The Pirates led 2-0 at intermission.

Mondragon cashed in another Castillo assist in the 56th minute to complete the hat trick. Finally, Castillo scored in the 80th minute with help from goalie Aracely Castro. The Raiders scored their lone goal on a hand ball penalty kick.

The Pirates had 19 shots on the day with 10 on goal. Castro had a pair of saves in goal.

Ventura closes out the first round of Western State Conference play on Tuesday Oct. 23 at home against Cuesta. Kickoff is slated for 6:00 pm at the Sportsplex.
