Pirates Take Hoffman Down Memory Lane at Cal Lu

The last time VC head coach Steve Hoffman coached at game at Cal Lutheran University the year was 1995 and he was an assistant with the Regals women's soccer team. Nearly 500 games and 22 years later, Hoffman took his Pirates back to the Thousand Oaks campus to lead the Pirates against Cal Lutheran's JV team. VC came out victorious in Hoffman's homecoming with a 2-0 win over CLU.

Audrey Castillo got the Pirates going early, scoring on a penalty kick in the ninth minute of play, her fifth goal in the past three games. The 1-0 count stood throughout the rest of the first half, and through much of the second before Paulina Aldrete put the game away with a goal in the 85th minute with an assist by Paola Gonzalez.  VC (7-7-2, 2-0) took 17 shots during the match, putting 11 on goal.

Goalie Maya Escobar recorded four saves in the shutout victory.

Ventura resumes Western State Conference play on Friday Oct. 20 with a key match-up at Santa Barbara City College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm at LaPlaya Stadium.
