VC freshman Paola Gonzalez scored a first-half goal in the Pirates' 1-1 draw against Citrus Tuesday night at the Sportsplex.

The Ventura College soccer team got an early goal, but were unable to make it stand up, yielding an equalizer early in the second half in their 1-1 draw against visiting Citrus College Tuesday night. Paola Gonzalez netted the Pirates' score in the 23rd minute with an assist by Justine Reyes. Citrus, meanwhile, tied the game with a goal in the 58th minute.

Ventura (4-7-2) dominated the offensive end with 29 shots, 12 of which were on frame.  Unfortunately, VC could not find the back of the net for the winner.

Paulina Aldrete had a breakaway chance in the 65th minute, but her shot sailed wide, while Audrey Castillo and Sirena Romero also had chances late.

Eva Mcmillan went the distance in goal for the Pirates but did not record any saves in the game.

After a week to rest, Ventura will begin Western State Conference North Division play on Tuesday Oct. 10 against Oxnard. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm at the VC Sportsplex.
