Aggressive Offense Lifts Pirates to Victory Over Bakersfield

The Pirate soccer team had an aggressive offensive night Friday, and it paid off with a 4-1 victory over visiting Bakersfield at the Sportsplex.  Janelle Garcia had two goals and an assist while Jennifer Orozco also scored twice in VC's final game before the beginning of Western State Conference North Division play.

The Pirates (6-4) were aggressive from the start, but could not cash in until the 42nd minute when Rae Ritchie assisted a goal by Janelle.  

VC came out swinging again after halftime, and Janelle assisted a score by Orozco in the 49th minute for a 2-0 Ventura lead.

The Renegades halved the Pirate advantage before Orozco found the back of the net again off of a Michelle Rios assist in the 73rd minute.

The Pirates got their final goal in the 83rd minute when a corner kick by Melissa Cardenas was redirected into the goal on a header by Janelle for the final 4-1 margin.

The Pirates ended the game with 26 shots, 10 on goal, while Bakersfield could not manage a shot on goal against the Pirate defense.

VC opens conference play on Tuesday Oct. 11 at Cuesta before returning home on Friday Oct. 14 against Allan Hancock.
