On a hot afternoon in Woodland Hills, the Pirate soccer team scored three times in the second half to defeat Los Angeles Pierce 4-2 in a non-conference match.  Janelle Garcia scored two goals while Megan Henderson and Jennifer Orozco each netted one score in the victory.

Ventura (4-3) made the most of their opportunities to score in the match.  They had eight shots on the day with five on goal.  Defensively, Marissa Dominguez had five saves as the Pirates' goal keeper.

The Pirates had a great chance early with a shot by Valeria Ramirez, but could not find the net.  They broke through in the 30th minute when Orozco dribbled up the right side, then found Janelle Garcia in the middle to convert the score.  Henderson had a nice cross late in the half but Ventura could not cash it in. VC led 1-0 at halftime.

The Brahmas leveled the score early in the second half before Henderson headed home a Sarah Garcia corner kick to make it 2-1.  Pierce managed to tie the score once again before Melissa Cardenas sent a nice kick to Janelle Garcia who found the back of the net with an incredible goal, her second of the match, and the game winner.

Esmeralda Murillo assisted a score by Orozco late in the game to insure the 4-2 Pirate victory.

The Pirates will return home for their final three non-conference matches, first hosting Fresno on Saturday Oct. 2.  Kickoff at the VC Sportsplex is scheduled for 2:00 pm.  The Pirates will also host Santa Monica and Bakersfield on Oct. 4 and 7 before Western State Conference play begins.
