Megan Henderson scored a pair of goals in Ventura's 3-2 loss at Moorpark Tuesday in VC's Western State Conference opener.

In their Western State Conference opener, the Pirate soccer team fought another good fight, only to fall victim to another late goal.  VC traveled to Moorpark on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Raiders 3-2.  Megan Henderson scored both goals for Ventura in the match.

The Pirates (1-8-2, 0-1) took an early advantage when Jennifer Orozco assisted Henderson's first goal in the 18th minute.   Melissa Aldrete missed a shot wide soon thereafter, missing a chance at a 2-0 Pirate lead.

Moorpark drew even with a score in the 26th and netted their second goal just 45 seconds later to take a 2-1 lead. Henderson netted her second goal, unassisted, in the 45th minute to send the teams to intermission all level.

Aldrete had another point-blank chance in the 74th minute, but it was saved by the Raider goal keeper, preserving the tie score.  Moorpark scored the game-winner in the 78th minute, securing just their third victory over VC since the series began in 1996.

VC had 10 shots in the game, six on goal.  Amy Neidiffer had 11 saves in goal for Ventura in the game.

The Pirates will next host Cuesta College on Friday Oct. 9.  Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 pm at the VC Sportsplex.
