After a lightening storm delayed the match in Orange County, the Pirate soccer team ran into another storm in the form of the Santiago Canyon Hawks, falling 7-1 in a non-conference match. Megan Henderson scored the only goal for VC, unassisted in the 40th minute.
The Pirates (1-3-1) fell behind 2-0 before Henderson halved the deficit, putting in a rebound off the Hawks' gaolie from a Ventura corner kick with five minutes before halftime. Santiago Canyon recaptured momentum with a goal three minutes later, and poured on four more scores in the final 45 minutes.
Ventura had 11 shots in the contest, eight of which were on goal. Marissa Dominguez turned back six Santiago Canyon shots in goal, while Amy Neidiffer had three saves.
Ventura next travels to Bakersfield on Friday Sept. 18 for a 7:00 pm match.
