Soccer Races to 4-1 Victory at DeAnza

The Ventura College soccer team claimed its first victory of the young season with a 4-1 runaway at De Anza College in Cupertino Thursday afternoon.  Kat Jordan had a goal and an assist to lead the way for the Pirates (1-1-1).

VC played 180 minutes of scoreless soccer to open the season last weekend, and finally broke the ice in the ninth minute of the first half Thursday.  Jennifer Orozco netted the first score off of an assist by Josselyne Pereda, and Jordan converted a penalty kick in the 37th minute to make it 2-0 at halftime.

Jordan then assisted a goal by Karla Mendez three minutes into the second half before the Dons got on the board to make the score 3-1 in the 54th minute.  Sasha Ceja scored on a set piece from a corner kick, with an assist by Jasmine Medina in the 70th minute to set the final margin at 4-1.

Goalie Amy Neidiffer had two saves to anchor the strong defensive effort by the Pirates.

Ventura will play at Evergreen Valley College in San Jose on Saturday afternoon before returning home.  Their next game at the VC Sportsplex is Tuesday Sept. 29 against Allan Hancock College.
