The improvement from game one to game two was noticeable for the Pirate soccer team Saturday afternoon, but they were unable to punch in a score, settling for a 0-0 draw with visiting Sierra College to conclude the Nike Soccer Community College Classic at the Sportsplex.  The Pirates managed just four shots on the day while goalie  Amy Neidiffer recorded three saves in her first career shutout for VC (0-1-1).

Ventura did not take a shot in the first half, and took just four in the final 45 minutes.  Dezi Gonzalas keyed VC's best scoring chances 14 minutes into the second half.  She made a run down the left side of the field, centering a pass to Jennifer Orozco, who could not punch the ball into the net.  A minute later Adrina Palacios shot from just outside the box, and the ball was deflected outside the net by the goalie.  On the ensuing corner kick, Josselyne Pereda corralled the ball, taking a shot that hit the outside of the goal.  Gonzalas keyed another run in the 87th minute, but her cross found the Sierra goalie.

The Pirates will begin a month-long hiatus from home turf on Thursday and Saturday Sept. 3 and 5 at DeAnza and Evergreen Valley in the Bay Area.  Their next home match opens Western State Conference play on Sept. 29 against Allan Hancock College.
