Gavid's Early Goal Holds Up as Pirates Blank Condors

Sophomore defender Delanie Gavid scored a goal in the 14th minute, and the Pirate defense made it hold up as Ventrua defeated Oxnard 1-0 Tuesday evening at the VC Sportsplex.  The victory sets up two key matches for the Pirates (10-3-4, 6-0-3) a they pursue the program's 16th Western State Conference crown since 1996.

Gavid took the ball from her customary left back position, matriculating down the field for the game's only score.  The VC defense, anchored by goal keeper Katelyn White, made sure it proved to be the game winner.  The score was Gavid's fourth goal of the season.

Ventura has now run its WSC unbeaten streak to 17 matches, dating to last season, and will travel to Pierce College on Friday Nov. 7 and Santa Barbara on Tuesday Nov. 11.  SBCC (7-0-3) leads the conference with 24 points in 10 matches while VC is second with 21 points in conference contests. Pierce (6-1-2) is a close third with 20 points in nine matches.  Ventura tied both teams at home in the first round of WSC play.
