Soccer Opens WSC Play With Draw

Opening Western State Conference North Division play, the VC women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw in the heat Friday afternoon at Moorpark College.  Miranda Campos converted a penalty kick in the 84th minute for the equalizer.

The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half, but the Raiders put the pressure on with an early score in the second.  Campos broke free in the box in the 84th minute and was fouled, converting the PK to knot the score.

The Pirates held the advantage on offense with 16 shots on the day, eight on goal.  VC goal keeper, Katelyn White, meanwhile, recorded one save in the net.  Paola Cano also had a strong defensiove effort.

Ventura (4-2-2) will continue WSC play in San Luis Obispo on Tuesday Oct. 7 with a match at Cuesta College at 4:00 pm.  They will face Oxnard on the road Friday Oct. 10 at 2:00 pm.
