Gavid Leads Pirate Blow-Out Over Renegades

Behind sophomore Delanie Gavid, who scored twice in the opening 15 minutes of the match, the Ventura College women's soccer team raced to a 7-1 win over visiting Bakersfield College Friday night at the Sportsplex. Gavid nailed a free kick from 25 yards out in the 9th minute and bent in a corner kick five minutes later to put the Pirates (4-0-0) on the road to the lopsided victory.

Gavid was on fire early, nearly bending in another corner kick into the net in the opening minutes of the contest before scoring her two goals. In the 28th minute she sent another corner to the front of the net where Miranda Campos knocked the ball in for a 3-0 VC advantage. Adrina Palacios scored an unassisted goal in the 44th minute to send Ventura to a 4-0 halftime lead.

Bakersfield converted a score in the 64th minute before VC put the match away six minutes later. Sabrina Lopez had time in space on the left side of the goal, and mishit a shot to the far post when Faby Rangel redirected the shot to the near post and into the net. In the 77th minute, Lopez converted an assist from Jasmine Medina for her fifth goal I the first four games of the season. Finally, Sofia Chandler took another Medina assist, slotting the ball to the left post for VC's seventh and final score of the evening. The Pirates won going away, 7-1.

Ventura will welcome Santiago Canyon College to the Sportsplex on Tuesday Sept. 9 before hosting Santa monica on Friday Sept. 12. Both matches are slated to kick off at 6:00 pm.
