Sabrina Lopez scored a pair of goals, and Miranda Campos added an insurance score late as the Pirates' women's soccer team defeated Citrus College 3-1 Wednesday afternoon in Glendora. Kathlyn White recorded six saves in goal to lead the defensive effort for Ventura (3-0-0).
After some early pressure from the Owls, Lopez broke through with the first socre of the day in the 18th minute on an assist from Delanie Gavid. Lopez found the back of the net again in the 40th minute with an assist by Abigail Littleton and VC led 2-0 at halftime.
The Owls halved the margin early, scoring three minutes into the final period, putting some heat on the Pirates. Miranda Campos scored unassisted in the 86th minute to put the contest on ice for VC, setting the 3-1 result.
The Pirates are back home on Friday Sept. 5 with a 6:00 pm kick off against Bakersfield College at the Sportsplex.
