WOMEN'S SOCCER:  It took a little longer than expected, but the Pirates' soccer team registered the program's 200th win in Western State Conference play with a 2-0 victory over Allan Hancock College Friday night at the Sportsplex. AJ Tewes and Abigail Littleton scored goals for VC (8-3-1, 4-2), as they broke the first two-match WSC losing streak in team history. Hailee Powell posted her sixth shutout of the season in goal for the Pirates.

Tewes put the Pirates on the board in the first half, heading in a corner kick from Delanie Gavid in the 19th minute. The Pirates had more scoring chances in the first half, including a shot by Paola Cano that went wide right in the 23rd minute and a pair of free kicks that struck the crossbar, one by Gavid in the 27th, and another by Guadalupe Magaña a minute later. Hancock had a solid chance late in the half that went over the crossbar and the halftime score stood at 1-0.

Ventura maintained control for most of the final 45 minutes with Littleton slotting home the second Pirate score in the 78th minute.

VC will host Rio Hondo on Tuesday Oct. 22 at 5:30 pm in a non-conference tilt before beginning the second round of WSC play on Friday Oct. 26 at Moorpark at 4:00 pm.
