WOMEN'S SOCCER:  The Pirates scored early and often as the overmatched visiting Cuesta 6-0 Friday night at the VC Sportsplex. Macey Herrera had a pair of goals and an assist while Ashley Borel assisted two goals and scored once in the Pirate victory. Abby Littleton, Liz Fair, and Naomi Jordan also scored goals as Ventura (6-1-1, 2-0) and the Pirate defense held the Cougars to just three shots on the evening. Goalie Hailee Powell was credited with the shutout, her second straight scoreless outing.

It did not take long for the Pirates to get on the board as Borel assisted Herrera's first goal in the second minute of the match. in the 15th minute, the tables were turned as Borel scored the goal on Herrera's assist, and the pair concluded their scoring in the 25th minute when Borel made a strong run at the goal from the left, passing to Herrera in the middle who finished the play in the back of the net. Littleton completed VC's first half scoring in the 36th minute, taking a rebound off a corner kick and slotting it past the Cougar goal keeper. Ventura led 4-0 at halftime.

In the second half, the Pirates were able to empty the bench, giving valuable playing time to key reserves. After some adjustment time, the Pirate offense began to cick once again, as Jordan assisted Fair's goal, a shot from 20-yards out, in the 70th minute. Jordan completed the Pirate scoring in the 77th minute off of an assist by Lianna Ambriz.

Ventura will host Oxnard on Tuesday Oct. 8 at the Sportsplex for a 5:30pm match before heading to Los Angeles Pierce College on Friday Oct. 11 for a key WSC matchup at 4:00 pm.
