WOMEN'S SOCCER:  On a sweltering hot day, the Pirates' women's soccer team shutout host Bakersfield College 1-0 on the efforts of a pair of freshmen Friday afternoon.  Midfielder Miranda Campos scored her first collegiate goal in the 81st minute and goal keeper Hailee Powell registered her first collegiate shutout as VC moved to 3-0-0 on the young season.  The Pirates also received outstanding defensive play from Paola Cano and Dakota Thompson.

Campos hit the game winner late, settling a loose ball and drilling it from outside the box to the left corner of the net.  With a strong bench, Ventura wore down the Renegades and beat the heat for the victory.

The schedule does not get any easier for VC, ranked No. 16 in the country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, will travel to No. 2 Santiago Canyon on Wednesday Sept. 11 for a 4:00 pm contest.  The Pirates will travel to Santa Monica on Friday Sept. 13 before returning home on Tuesday Sept. 17 against No. 17 San Diego Miramar at 6:00 pm.
