VC forward Kylie Gallick scored 14 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to help lead the Pirates past Oxnard 47-31 Wednesday at the Athletic Event Center. Mya Victor had eight points, nine rebounds and seven blocked shots, tied for second-best in program history, while Sofia Torres-Reyes netted 11 points in the triumph. The victory was the 10th straight for Ventura (15-10, 10-1).

Gallick was nails early, scoring the first seven points of the game as the VC defense held the Condors scoreless for the first seven minutes of the game. Kenya Edelhart scored a lay-up and a jumper, and Maddie Ozbourn connected for two as the Pirates held a 13-1 lead after one quarter of play.

Ventura continued to slowly build its lead throughout the second period. Torres-Reyes' first three of the game extended the margin to 15 points, 18-3, and her second trey made it 25-5with 3:48 on the clock. Victor made a pair of free throws with 1:07 remaining to give VC a 27-8 halftime advantage.

Oxnard scored the first six points of the second half to establish a different narrative. Although the Pirates answered with a triple from Torres-Reyes and a strong drive to the hoop by Alisha Cruz-Lisberg, the Pirates would be unable to extend their margin in the final 20 minutes of play.  Alyssandra Lacanilao scored an old-fashioned 3-point play late in the period as Ventura led 37-21 at the quarter break.

The VC offense continued to struggle in the fourth quarter, but the Pirate "D" maintained its focus to maintain the lead throughout the period. Gallick ended the game as she started it, scoring six of the Pirates' 10 points in the quarter leading to the 47-31 victory.

Edelhart finished the game with seven points and four assists and Ozbourn added 11 rebounds to the effort.

Ventura finishes up Western State Conference play on Friday Feb. 18 with a trip to Cuesta College. Tip-off in San Luis Obispo is slated for 7:00 pm.
