Taufaasau Earns All-State Honors

Ventura College sophomore Talia Taufaasau has been named second team All-State by the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association. The 5-foot-7 point guard earned third team All-State honors a year ago, making her the 11th player in program history to earn the honor for two seasons.

Taufaasau has been the Pirates' leading scorer this season, averaging 13.8 points per game from her point guard position. She is also averaging 3.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.4 blocks per outing. She is shooting 42.7 percent from the floor on the year (126-295) and 32 percent from behind the 3-point arc (32-100). She is also shooting 79.5 percent from the free throw line (89-112) which places her eighth in the state.

The Canyon High School product was named the Most Valuable Player in the Wild West Shootout at West LA, the Gilcrest Invitational at Sequoias and the Buddy's All-Star Classic at LA Valley in the early season, and was also all-tournament at the VC-Kiwanis Tournament of Champions.

The Pirates currently have a record of 20-7 and are seeded No. 3 in the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs.They will host No. 6 Irvine Valley (25-2) in the regional Finals on Saturday March 7 at 7:00 pm at the VC Athletic Event Center.
