Quintino, Taufaasau Named CCCWBCA All-State

Pirate guards Cece Quintino and Talia Taufaasau have been named to the All-State team by the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association in meetings held last week. Quintino, a redshirt freshman from Liberty High School in Las Vegas was named second-team All-State while Taufaasau, a freshman from Canyon High School in Santa Clarita, was named third-team. This is the 14th time under head coach Ned Mircetic that the Pirates have had two or more players named to the all-state team. The pair are the 41st and 42nd Pirates in program history to earn state-wide distinction and the 12th and 13th first-year players to earn the honor.

Quintino was the Pirates' leading scorer this season. The transfer from UC Santa Barbara led the team putting up 16.9 points per game and pulling in 5.6 rebounds. She also hands out 3.6 assists per game. Cece has made nearly 42 percent of her field goal attempts while shooting 34 percent from behind the 3-point arc and hitting 75 percent of her free throws.

Taufaasau has come on strong late in the season, scoring 15.3 points per game on the year. She hands out 3.6 dimes per outing and shoots 34 percent from 3-point land. Talia also leads the team shooting over 75 percent from the free throw line with 200 attempts on the season, good for seventh in program history.

The Pirates currently have a record of 24-9 and are seeded No. 5 in the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs. They will host No. 13 Irvine Valley (23-5) on Saturday March 9 at 7:00 pm at the Athletic Event Center.
