Four Pirates Named All-Conference

Four members of the 2018-19 Ventura College women's basketball team have been named All-Western State Conference in voting by the WSC North Division coaches earlier this week. Victoria Maciel, LaDaesha Merriweather, Cece Quintino and Talia Taufaasau all earned first-team All-WSC nods for their performance during the 2019 conference season.

Quintino, a redshirt freshman from Liberty High School in Las Vegas, led the Pirates in scoring throughout the season, in WSC play she averaged 15.9 points and 4.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per outing. Taufaasau, meanwhile, came on strong in the second half of the season to score 16.7 points in conference action with 5.0 assists and 3.2 boards per outing. The freshman point guard from Canyon High School in Santa Clarita played 356 out of a possible 400 minutes during VC's 10-game WSC run.

Maciel, another redshirt freshman, had a nice run through conference play as well, scoring 11.1 points per outing. The Pacifica High School graduate led the team in 3-pointers made and in steals. Merriweather, meanwhile, was the Pirates' rock on the inside, pulling down a team-best 10 rebounds per outing. The graduate of Golden Valley High School in Santa Clarita also upped her scoring to 7.8 points per game in conference play.

Ventura opens the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs at home on Friday March 1. The No. 5-seeded Pirates will host No. 12 Rio Hondo with a 7:00 pm tip-off at the Athletic Event Center.
