Del Castillo Earns 2nd Team All-State Honors

Ventura College sophomore Davina Del Castillo has been named second team All-State by the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association. The John Burroughs High School product becomes the 40th Pirate since 1986 to earn All-State honors.  Del Castillo will be honored, along with the entire CCCWBCA All-State team, at Wednesday's Banquet of Champions in Oxnard, held in conjunction with the CCCAA State Tournament being held at the VC Athletic Event Center beginning Thursday.

Del Castillo was named the Western State Conference co-Most Valuable Player in voting by the conference coaches last month. She averaged 12.8 points and 10-.6 rebounds per game this past season, becoming just the third Pirate to average a double-double since All-American Nicole Ellis accomplished the feat in 1993 (the others were Destinee LaFountain in 2012 and Adrianne Sloboh in 2014). Del Castillo made 44 percent of her field goal attempts, 32 percent of her 3-pointers, and 78 percent of her free throw attempts on the season. She was also tops on the team with 2.7 steals and 0.8 blocks per outing while averaging 2.0 assists.

For her career, Del Castillo started all 65 games the Pirates played, scoring 10.9 points and pulling down 10.3 rebounds per contest. Her career total of 667 rebound ranks third in program history (behind Chris Royers '90 and La Fountain '12) while she totaled 706 total points and 177 steals, just outside the top-20 and top-10, respectively, in the VC record books.

The Pirates finished the season with a 23-8 overall record, 9-1 in the Western State Conference North Division. They won the school's 28th consecutive WSC championship, the 31st overall conference title in program history.
