Freshman guard Katie Campbell has been named the Western State Conference North Division Most Valuable Player in voting by the conference coaches last weekend. The other four starters for the Pirates, Davina Del Castillo, Rhiana Dougan, Kyleesha Green and Sienna Brown were all named first team All-Conference for the 2017 season.
Campbell, an Oaks Christian product, led the Pirates with 18.2 points per game in conference play, with 6.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.1 blocks. She is the 21st conference MVP in program history and just the fifth MVP since 2005.
Dougan, Green and Brown are all sophomores from Garces Memorial, Ventura, and Burroughs high schools, respectively. Del Castillo is a freshman from Burroughs High School.
Ventura posted a perfect 10-0 in conference play in 2017, the 21st perfect WSC season in the 27-year tenure of head coach Ned Mircetic. VC won its 27th straight WSC title, and the 30th conference championship in program history.
