The Pirates' women's basketball team has earned the No 3 seed in the 2017 CCCAA SoCal Regional Playoffs, giving them home court advantage to a possible berth in the state tournament. Ventura (25-5) will open post-season play at the Athletic Event Center on Saturday Feb. 25 against Santa Monica (19-9) or San Diego City (14-12). The Corsairs and Knights will play a first round game on Wednesday Feb. 22 in Santa Monica. Tip-off Saturday is scheduled for 7:00 pm and the game can be seen live on the VC Sports Network.
Ventura, the 27-peat champions of the Western State Conference North Division, played both SMC and SDCC in non-conference play this season. The Pirates defeated Santa Monica, the WSC South Division champions, 78-35 on November 25 in the opening round of the VC-Kiwanis Tournament of Champions, although the Corsairs were playing without one of their starters in that game. VC defeated San Diego, co-champions of the Pacific Coast Conference South Division, 91-48 in the semifinals of the Wild West Shootout at West Los Angels College on December 16.
On the other side of the bracket, No. 6 Los Angeles Valley (22-6) will play No. 11 Riverside (19-10) in Van Nuys on Friday Feb. 24, with the winner facing the VC-Santa Monica/Dan Diego winner on Saturday March 4 in the Regional Final.
