VC freshman Alex Kalmbach had one of her best outings of the year, leading the Pirates with 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists in their 79-39 win over Los Angeles Pierce College Wednesday in Woodland Hills.  Felicia Magana recorded 12 points and three steals while Makenna Murray had 12 points, six assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals in the victory.

Ventura (17-4, 3-0) took control early as buckets by Amani White and Carolyn Ruffino, and a three from Murray made the score 7-0 2:18 into the contest.  Kalmbach hit a 3-pointer at the 4:45 mark of the first period to make it 15-4 for VC.  Kalmbach followed that up with a pair of field goals sandwiched around a deuce by Sienna brown as Ventura led the Brahmas 21-10 after the first quarter.

Following an early Pierce bucket, the Pirates extended their lead in the second quarter with a 12-2 run.  Magana hit a pair of triples and Murray also hit from range as VC led 34-14 with 2:56 remaining in the first half.  Aubri Smith hit a field goal as the half wound down, and Magana and Kyleesha Green each hit threes as the Pirates led 44-17 at the half.

The pace slowed a bit for Ventura in the third quarter, but picked up again in the final 10 minutes of the game.  Shiloh Smith and Rhiana Dougan hit 3-pointers down the stretch and the Pirates rolled to the easy 79-39 win.

White finished with nine points, five rebounds and three steals while Aubri Smith had nine boards, six assists and four steals. Ruffino and Mary Shirley each pulled in five rebounds and Green dished out four assists with a pair of steals.

Ventura will return home to host Allan Hancock College on Saturday Jan. 16 for a 5:00 pm game. Immediately following the contest, the Pirates will honor their favorite teachers in an on-court ceremony before the men's game begins at approximately 7:15pm.
