WOMEN'S BASKETBALL:  Hanna Burge finished her Ventura College career last spring with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. The Newbury Park High School product had been a two-year starter for the Ventura College women's basketball team, twice earning first-team all-Western State Conference honors for the Pirates. She was also named Academic All-State for two years, and on Saturday, she was notified that she had been named the 2013 CCCAA Female Scholar Athlete.

"(The Award)," writes CCCAA Carlyle Carter, "is the highest honor that the CCCAA awards to student athletes among the 27,000 annual participants."

Burge is the first student athlete in the history of Ventura College to earn the state's highest individual honor. She is now a junior Regent's Scholar at UCLA, and will be honored at the 2014 CCCAA Celebration of Student Athlete's Luncheon held in conjunction with the annual convention in Los Angeles on Wednesday April 2.
