Track & Field Competes at Long Beach State

The VC track and field team competed at the Beach Opener at Long Beach State Friday and Saturday with a number of strong performances. Adrian Valdez led the achievements for the VC men with a 3:59.27 time in the 1500m, the sixth fastest mark in school history. Meanwhile, Brenda Garcia finished first in the 3000m steeplechase for the Pirate women in the meet that featured a number of NCAA Division I athletes.

The men's 4x100 quartet of William Boyd (Buena HS), Isaiah Spence (Oxnard HS), Thomas Dore (Oxnard HS), and Isaiah Marecheau (Oxnard HS) placed fourth overall running a 42.09. Thei mark placed them eighth all time in the VC record books and also meets a State A standard. 

Boyd was also fourth overall in the 100m, breaking the tape in 10.69, the No. 10-ranked time in school annals, meeting a State B standard. Marecheau, meanwhile, ran a 10.80 in the 100m, 17th all time at VC. Dore came in 14th in the individual event.

Valdez (Oxnard HS) was 11th in the 800m, and 18th in the 1500m. His 1500 time of 3:59.27 is #6 all time for VC and is a state A standard.

Ramiro Mateos (Oxnard HS) was fourth overall in the 3000m steeplechase.

Garcia (Buena HS), led the women's efforts with a gold medal run in the 3000m steeplechase as the lone competitor. 

Sophia Godina (Rio Mesa HS) was 19th in the 1500m in 4:52.77. He mark is the 11th fastest time in the Pirate record books and is a state A standard.

The Pirates will next compete at the Viking Invitational at Long Beach City College on Friday March 10.  The VC throwers will compete at the Ben Brown Invitational at Cal State Fullerton on Saturday March 11 and the distance runners will hit the track at the Occidental Distance Carnival in Eagle Rock, also on Saturday March 11.
