Individuals Shine at the WSC North Track Meet

The VC men's and women's track and field teams brought home eight golds from the Western State Conference North meet Friday in Bakersfield.
The Pirates' men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Bakersfield Friday for the Western State conference North meet hosted by the Renegades. VC brought home eight individual victories on the day. Julian Gibson, Jake Reinwald and Jaedon Rogers all captured gold for the Ventrua men while Alisann Tolosa, Brieanna Tafoya, Olivia Burton and Aubrianna Smith led the way for the VC women.
 
On the men's side, Gibson was the 400m winner and was second in the 200m by .05 seconds. Reinwald was the long jump winner, and also placed fifth in the 200m. Rogers captured the triple jump victory, was runner-up in the long jump and finished fifth in the 100m. Gibson, Reinwald, and Rogers joined teammate Brandon Sarmiento to take fourth in the 4x100m relay. Meanwhile Gibson, Reinwald, and Sarmiento joined Jack Cabrera to finish second in the 4x400m relay.
 
On the women's side, the distance races were swept by he Pirates. Tolosa won the 800m, Tafoya won the 1500m with the 11th -fastest time in school history, and Burton won the 3000m. Aubrianna was a double winner, capturing the 100m in the seventh-fastest time in school history and winning the 200m. She joined teammates Catalina Escobal, Gillian Serate, and Tajanae Mack to place second in the 4x100m relay. Serate was also fourth and fifth in the long and triple jump, respectively. Aubrianna, Escobal and Mack joined teammate Caroline Smith to place second in the 4x400m relay. Michelle Hamm and Cecilia Cano were fifth and sixth in the 800m. Gisele Ortega and Isabelle Egbert were fourth and fifth in the 1500m while Egbert was also third in the 3000m.
 
The Pirates travel to Santa Monica on Saturday Feb. 29 for the Santa Monica Classic.
