Pirates Compete at Western State Conference Relays

The Pirate Men's and Women's track and field teams traveled to West Los Angeles on Friday to face conference foes in the Western State Conference Relays. The Pirate women had a successful day winning multiple relays on the track while the VC men also brought home some hardware in the non-scoring meet.
 
The women came away successful winning multiple relays on the track. The distance medley team of Brieanna Tafoya (1200m), Alisann Tolosa (400m), Isabelle Egbert (800m), and Olivia Burton (1600m) came away with a convincing victory. Burton was also third in the 5000m. Tafoya and Tolosa joined Tajanae Mack and Catalina Escobal to place third in the 4x400m relay. Mack and Escobal were also on the winning 4x200m relay with teammates Gillian Serate and Aubrianna Smith. That team would also place second in the 4x100m relay. Serate and Escobal captured the third and fourth spots in the long jump. The 4x800m relay team consisting of Cecilia Cano, Cristina Cortes, Michelle Hamm, and Gisele Ortega took second place overall.
 
On the Men's side the 4x200m relay team consisting of Jake Reinwald, Brandon Sarmiento, Andre Lanns, and Julian Gibson took the third place spot overall. Rodgers and Reinwald would also take the third and fifth spots in the long jump. Sarmiento, Gibson, and Reinwald also joined teammate Peirson Reynolds to place fourth in the 4x400m relay. Reynolds was also on the tenth place distance medley with teammates Jonathan Ordaz, Gabriel Olivares, and Luis Barriga.
 
The Pirate travel back to Bakersfield College next Friday for the first scored conference meet of the season at the WSC North Meet. Competition starts at 10:00 am.
