TRACK & FIELD:  Dylan Roberts and Brooke Dixon are headed to the CCCAA State Track & Field Championships. The two qualified for the state finals in the triple jump and shot put, respectively, at the SoCal regional finals held Friday and Saturday in Riverside. Roberts, a freshman, jumped a lifetime-best 46'6" to place fifth overall while Dixon, a sophomore, earned her second trip to the championships with a throw of 40'10" to claim third. VC was also represented at the regionals by Sabrina Sewell (3000 meter steeplechase), Brittnee Jones (shot put, discus, and hammer throw) and Danielle Colvin (long jump). Jones and Colvin each missed qualifying for state by one place, finishing seventh in the shot put and long jump, respectively.

"(Assistant coaches) Jaime Castaneda and Tom Lawrence did a fine job preparing these two young people and their seasonal long efforts have paid off," commented head coach Tony Veney. "Though Sewell did not advance, she still leaves as the steeple chase record holder, while Jones ranks as one of the top-5 hammer throwers ever at VC. The future looks bright for Colvin who appears to show great potential in the multi events next year."

The CCCAA State Championships will be held Friday and Saturday May 16 and 16 at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. Field events will begin at 12:00 noon each day with running events beginning at 1:00 pm.
