TRACK & FIELD:  Five members of the Pirate track and field teams advanced to the SoCal Finals in preliminary competition Friday and Saturday at Riverside City College. Things got started Friday when Brooke Dixon (3rd) and Brittnee Jones (10th) qualified for next week's shot put final (the top-12 field event competitors advance). Jones returned on Saturday and qualified second in the hammer throw (No. 6 all-time at VC) and ninth in the discus, while Dixon placed ninth in the hammer. Danielle Colvin placed sixth overall in the long jump, while Sabrina Sewell placed a qualifying 10th in the 3000 meter steeple chase making her second consecutive steeple final. The lone male Pirate to move on did so in fine fashion as Dylan Roberts place 12th in the long jump as eighth in the triple jump.

"The championship finals will be a real war out there next week," commented head track coach Tony Veney. "All that's left is to stay fresh and be ready to give it your all."

The women's shot put will be contested on Friday May 9 at 1:00pm, while the balance of running and field events will held Saturday May 10 (women's hammer at 9:00 am).
