Pirate Divers Lead VC in WSC #2 Meet

The Ventura College men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed at the Western State Conference No. 2 meet at Los Angeles Valley Saturday with the women placing third and the men fifth overall. Pirate divers paces both teams winning all four diving events. Ayden Jacobus claimed two golds for the men with wins in the 1m and 3m diving events while Allison Harris won the 1m and Kendal Santos claimed the 3m diving competition.

Harris claimed the 1m diving event with a score of 211.25 and Lauren Pierce came in second. VC then swept the 3m diving with Santos putting up a score of 161.45 followed by Pierce in second and Harris in third.

Jacobus, meanwhile, won a pair of golds, scoring 222.85 in the 3m competition before posting a 216.05 in the 1m event.

VC's 400-yard medley relay team of Allison Donnelly, Stephany Dijar, Shelby Jackson and Ahna Davis provided the best swimming finish on the day with a silver while Gabrielle MacNeill, Cassidy Yanca, Caitlyn Hilgenberg and Emily Baughn came in eighth in the same event. Donnelly, Yanca, Jackson and Davis also finished third in the 400-yard freestyle relay for Ventura.

Individually, Donnelly earned bronze in the 400-yard individual medley and placed fifth in the 500-yard freestyle. Yanca was fourth in the 200-yard freestyle and came in sixth in the 500-yard free. Meanwhile, Jackson was third in the 200-yard butterfly and sixth in the 200-yard free. Dijar touched in fifth in the 200-yard breast stroke and Davis finished sixth in the 200-yard backstroke.

The Pirate men's 400-yard freestyle relay quartet of Hunter Johnson, Carlos Gonzales, Ramon Rodriguez and Rafael Rodriguez came in sixth in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Gonzales, meanwhile, was fifth in both the 400-yard IM and 500-yard free.

Santa Barbara claimed the women's meet with 345 points with Santa Monica and Ventura not far behind with 310 and 307 points, respectively. Cuesta claimed first in the men's standings.

Ventura's swimmers and divers next hit the pool on Friday March 31 at the WSC No. 3 event at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita.
