Pirate Swimmers Compete at ARC Pentathlon in Sacramento

VC's Collin Spargur placed in the 50-yard freestyle and also swam legs on two relay teams for the Pirates Friday at the American Reiver College Pentathlon in Sacramento.

The Ventura College men's and women's swimmers traveled to Sacramento to compete at the American River College Pentathlon on Friday. Collin Spargur led the effort on the men's side with his best effort in the 50-yard freestlye while Shelby Jackson led the VC women earning her best finish in the 100-yard butterfly.

Jackson was second in the 100 fly with a time of 1:04.74. SHe also came in seventh in the 200-yard individual medley and 10th in the 100-yard backstroke. Stephany Dijar came in 12th in the 100-yard breast stroke. 

VC's relay team of Jackson, Dijar, Megan Findlay and Nicole Hoare finished seventh in the 200-yard medley relay while Jackson, Findlay, Dijar and Lauren Pierce were also seventh in the 200-yard freestyle relay. 

Spargur swam 21.99 in his heat in the 50-yard free to finish third while Zane Hermann came in eighth. Meanwhile Brayden Lauritzen was 12th in the 100-yard breast stroke.

The Pirates' 200-yard medley relay team of Spargur, Lauritzen, Mattia Braccini and Hermann finished sixth while the team of Hermann, Braccini, Janson Cunningham and Spargur finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

At the end of the meet, there was a race-off in the 50-free pitting the top eight finishers against each other. Hermann swam in the quarterfinal round while Spargur advanced past the quarters to the semi's before being eliminated.

The Pirates next compete at the Western State Conference and Southern California Diving Championships on April 15 and 16 before swimming at the WSC Championships April 21-23.
