Andrews, Cunningham lead VC Men to 2nd Place at WSC #3

Michael Andrews won the 1m diving competition and Janson Cunningham claimed gold in the 3m diving event to lead the Pirate men to a second place finish at the Western State Conference No. 3 meet at the Ventura Aquatic Center Friday. Meanwhile Lauren Pierce and Allison Harris each won a silver and a bronze in diving to lead the Ventura women at the five-team meet.

Andrews totaled 182.45 points to win the 1m diving event and he also came in third in the 3m competition. Cunningham, meanwhile, earned 175.30 points to claim the gold in the 3m diving. Mattia Braccini placed fifth in both diving events for VC.

Collin Spargur finished second in the 50-yard freestyle while Zane Hermann won silver in the 100-yard free.

The Pirates' 400-yard medley relay team of Spargur, Brayden Lauritzen, Braccini and Hermann also came in second, as did the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Hermann, Cunningham, Lauritzen and Spargur.

For the Ventura women, Harris claimed silver in the 1m diving and bronze in the 3m event while Pierce placed second in the 3m and third in the 1m. Stefanie Covarrubias placed fourth in the 1m event.

Stephany Dijar came in fifth in the 200-yard breast stroke and Megan Findlay touched seventh in the 50-yard freestyle. 

The Pirates' 400-yard medley relay team of Nicole Hoare, Djar, Findlay and Natalia Rodriguez finished fourth while the 400-yard freestyle relay team on Hoare, Dijar, Rodriguez and Pierce came in third.

The Pirates next compete at the American River College Sprint Pentathlon and Shoot Out Friday April 8 in Sacramento.
