Swim & Dive Competes in Double Dual Meet at Mt. SAC

The VC men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed at a double dual meet at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut on Friday, taking on the host Mounties and Santa Monica College. The Pirate men defeated the Corsairs and lost to Mt. SAC while the women won both duals. Collin Spargur and Arturo Medina led the men with three golds each while Caitlin Potter and Sierra Limneos each won three individual races for the women.

Spargur swept the freestyle events, taking the 50-yard (22.18), 100-yard (49.09) and 200-yard (1:52.27) races. Medina, meanwhile, won gold in the 200-yard (2:04.45) and 400-yard (4:32.0) individual medlies along with the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.81).

Roman Becher claimed first place finish in the 1m diving competition (159.97) and was second in the 50-yard butterfly and third in the 100-yard fly. Brayden Lauritzen won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.66) while coming in second in the 100-yard IM and in the 100-yard freestyle.

VC's quartet of Medina, Becher, Lauritzen and Spargur claimed silver in the 200-yard medley relay while Nathan Blok, Medina, Becher and Spargur were runner-up in the 400-yard freestyle relay.  Lauritzen, Michael Andrews, Blok and Ben Sweet came in third in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

In dual results, Ventura defeated Santa Monica 164-140 while falling to Mt. SAC 216-112.

Potter led the women with first place finishes in the 100-yard (1:03.12) and 200-yard (2:15.17) backstroke events along with the 400-yard individual medley (5:01.62). Limneos claimed gold in the 200-yard IM (2:29.32) and the 100-yard (1:03.12) and 200-yard (2:45.73) breaststroke races. Meanwhile, Lauren Mora came in first in the 50-yard backstroke (33.29) and third in the 500-yard freestyle.

Ventura's 200-yard medley relay team of Potter, Megan Findlay, Limneos and Kiran Shah touched first (2:01.94), as did the quartet of Potter, Mora, Limneos and Shah in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:59.46). The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Findlay, Lauren Pierce, Yaneli Calderon and Mora finished in the runner-up position.

Individually, Findlay was second in the 200-yard butterfly and third in the 100-yard freestyle and Shah was third in the 200-yard free. Pierce won bronze in the 50-yard breaststroke and Stefanie Covarrubias was third in the 100-yard IM. Calderon also came in third in the 1m diving event.

The Pirates defeated Mt. SAC 166-144 and beat Santa Monica 156-124 in dual competition.

The Pirate divers will compete in the Western State Conference championships on Saturday May 15 while the swimmers compete in the conference finals on Saturday May 22.
