VC Swim Teams Win Duals Against Santa Monica

The Pirates' men's and women's swim teams were victorious again on Saturday defeating visiting Santa Monica in both dual meets. The VC men defeated the corsairs 133-84 while the Ventura women triumphed 136-76. Arturo Medina and Collin Spargur were both dominant with three individual golds on the day along with two relay wins and Caitlin Potter matched on the women's side with three individual first-place finishes along with two relay golds.

Medina claimed first in the 100 yard individual medley (1:01.33), 50 yard breaststroke (28.44) and 200 yard breaststroke (2:23.42) while Brayden Lauritzen was right behind him in all three races finishing second. Spargur claimed gold in the 200 yard freestyle (1:58.42), 50 yard free (22.09) and 100 yard free (50.11), while Roman Becher produced a victory in the 50 yard butterfly (24.83). Nathan Blok had VC's other individual win in the 200 yard backstroke (2:33.52). Becher and Block also claimed runner-up finishes in the 200 yard butterfly and 200 yard freestyle events, respectfully. Ben Sweet was second in the 50 yard backstroke and Michael Andrews won bronze in the 200 yard butterfly.

Ventura's 400 yard medley relay team of Medina, Lauritzen, Becher and Spargur finished first with a mark of 3:50.65 and the quartet also won the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:32.90).

Potter dominated her individual events, bringing home the gold in the 100 yard IM (1:08.58), 200 yard backstroke (2:21.26) and 50 yard backstroke (30.71). Sierra Limneos finished first in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:47.76) while Megan Findlay won the 50 yard butterfly (29.95). Limneos also claimed silver in the 200 yard freestyle and won bronze in the 50 yard free and Findlay touched second in the 200 yard butterfly. Natalia Rodriguez placed in three events including second in the 50 yard backstroke and third in both the 100 yard IM and 50 yard butterfly. Lauren Mora also claimed three places with a runner-up finish in the 50 yard free and thirds in the 200 and 100 yard freestyle events. Kiran Shah won silver in the 50 yard breaststroke and 100 yard freestyle and Lauren Pierce was third in the 50 yard breaststroke.

Potter, Limneos, Findlay and Shah won both the 400 yard medley relay (4:31.21) and 200 yard freestyle relay (1:50.61).

The Pirate swimmers will travel to San Luis Obispo on Saturday May 1 to take on Cuesta and Allan Hancock.
