Adrianna Bese set a new school record in the 200-yard breast stroke on Saturday, highlighting the final day of competition at the CCCAA State Championships at De Anza College in Cupertino. The sophomore touched in 2:28.23, good for eighth place and the new school mark. Gracelyn De La Cruz also earned individual points for the VC women, who finished 11th overall, and Cooper Fuchs led the Pirate men with his third top performance of the three-day meet. The Ventura men came in ninth place in the championships.
Bese set the new school mark in Saturday afternoon's finals session. It was her second place in as many days as she topped Ventura's women's team with 23 individual points.
De La Cruz came in eighth in the 200-yard backstroke event and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of De La Cruz, Caitlin Burditt, Ary Martinez and Kaitlin Reagan finished in 14th place in the final event of the day.
Ventura totaled 125 points, good for 11th overall out of 41 participating teams. Orange Coast ran away with the women's state championship scoring 553 points. San Diego Mesa was second with 332 and Sierra College finished third with 318 points.
Fuchs came in sixth place in the 100-yard freestyle, his third top-6 finish of the championships. He was also on the 400-yard freestyle relay team with Tobias Hynes, Jake Peters and Hunter Massey, finishing in eighth place overall.
The VC men scored 129 points, led by Fuchs with 46 individual points, to come in ninth overall. Sierra College edged Diablo Valley 356-324 to claim the state title, with Mt. San Antonio coming in a distant third with 193 points.
